SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS
A short fiction film and call to action in support of a community in peril.
As of September 7, 2025, 70.8% of people held in ICE detention had no criminal conviction. That’s more than 2 out of every 3 people taken off streets, from cars and from the hallways of immigration court houses, removed from families, held in detention and often deported. The majority of the convictions that do exist are for minor offenses such as traffic violations. This data comes directly from the U.S. Administration through FOIA requests by tracreports.org, standing in stark contrast to administration rhetoric about only detaining violent criminals.
There are many people and organizations offering information, resources and ways to directly help. Here are a few:
RESOURCES
THE DISAPPEARED
Our film features images created by artist Pauline Mateos for the activist organization Refuse Fascism LA. The Disappeared is a multidisciplinary art project that examines the human cost of immigration enforcement in the United States. The project presents individuals who were taken by ICE agents and detained without due process in facilities across the country. Many were deported to other countries without legal recourse or a pathway to reunite with their families. Others remain unaccounted for, having disappeared into a system with little transparency or accountability.
Here are ways you can learn about and help some of those families right now:
Learn about Ana Gabriella Diaz and her nine year old daughter detained during a routine immigration appointment.
Learn about Hilario Martinez-Garcia detained at a Tennessee Highway Patrol checkpoint.
MSNBC journalist Jacob Soboroff has done extensive reporting on Nory and her mother Estela who were deported to Guatemala during a routine immigration court visit. Tragically and unexpectedly, Estela passed away shortly after they were deported.
NORY SONTAY RAMOS
A short documentary on Nory and Estela by Jacob and MSNBC
A GoFundME campaign to directly help Nory now
Refuse Fascism is a national collective of volunteers uniting all citizens in a call to conscience and call to action for the largest nonviolent mass mobilization in US history in defense of human rights, dignity and U.S. democracy.
